Speaking more freely

When teaching language, we also need to think of the whole child, and encourage general cognitive and educational development. This is one reason why choice of topics is important. Topics may be familiar ones, but should be built on or extended so that learners can learn something new.

1. Starting to speak freely - eliciting personal talk:
Children generally like to talk about themselves, and to hear their classmates doing the same. They enjoy talking about their favourite things, their hobbies, sports, families and so on.
